Is my toad dead or hibernating?

We have an American toad we adopted at the start of the summer and kept out in the garage. We brought it in at the End of September as it was getting colder. We put a tank together for her in our basement which is a bit On the cool side. She stopped eating and was moving very slowly and today isn’t moving at all. I am not sure if she got sick and died or if she is hibernating and how to tell the difference.

If the toad is hybernating you will not see it. American toads will hibernate in the wild during the cooler months and can do pretty deep underground considering their size. In captivity, the temp has to be fairly low for them to want to hibernate. I am guessing that she might have started the process but bringing her indoors interrupted it.
